A Profile of Poker Pro Jerry Yang
Jerry Yang is a poker pro who has already achieved a lot of things aside from poker. Despite being a social worker and a psychologist at the same time, he has made his way into the heart of the poker world by winning the main event of the 38th annual installment of the World Series of Poker. Who could have known that this virtual unknown can barge his way into the event and dominate all his opponents?
With barely two years playing poker, Yang shocked the world by winning the event. With only $225 to enter the event, he was able to make his way to win a grand total of $8,250,000. This victory catapulted Yang into the 26th spot of the world rankings.
The responsibility of Yang towards the society wherein he is living right now is very much evident in his decision to help different charitable institutions. From his winnings, he will give money to the Ronald McDonald House, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Feed the Children. Now that's a class act which other poker pros should try to follow.
When he was asked regarding the other poker pros that he respects most, he mentioned Doyle Brunson, Howard Lederer and Jonathon Natale. He then completed the list of his most respected poker professionals by also mentioning Chris Ferguson, Daniel Negreanu, Harman Jennifer, Phil Ivey, Men Nguyen, Annie Duke, Johnny Chan, Barry Greenstein, Mike Sexton and John Juanda. No wonder why he won the main event at the World Series of Poker 2007. With all these great poker players that he followed, he would definitely be a great poker professional just like them.
The story of Yang is indeed a success. Rarely can excellent players be seen emerging into limelight with a major success in just an instant. With his very young career in mind, Yang dreams of becoming one of the most successful and respected poker players of all time. He has already done an excellent start, all he has to do is to follow through with the success of this major victory and continue to strive to improve his skills in the game.
At the final day of the 38th Annual World Series of Poker, Yang won the No Limit Hold'em Championship by outlasting fellow millionaires Tuan Lam of Canada, Raymond Rahme of South Africa, Alex Kravchenko of the Russia Federation and John Kalmar of Great Britain. The three next players that Yang outlasted were U.S. citizens Hevad Khan, Lee Childs and Lee Watkinson.
The life of Yang is a very good, yet a tough one, to follow for younger aspiring poker players. Doing various tasks and professions, while maintaining poker skills, is indeed very hard. However, Yang showed everybody that this is achievable even by a simple fellow just like him. It is indeed fun to see a person succeed while performing simultaneous tasks. This is a mark of a classy, well-rounded individual.
